Meet Chef Regina Mitchell

– Written by Kimberly Cline, Director of Sales LVI America

Three pictures of chef Regina Mitchell where she is cooking in the kitchen.

Chef Regina Mitchell was on a fast track in her chosen career in the culinary arts. As a classically trained chef, she traveled around the world working alongside many notable chefs and crafted delicious masterpieces.

Regina had a very sudden life change: she began to experience excruciating eye pain. She was later diagnosed with bilateral panuveitis, a condition which affects the lens, retina, and optic nerve.  This condition changed her vision overnight. Regina said, “It was like I was looking through multiple screen doors, and I wasn’t sure how I could continue in my career as a chef.”

Regina’s passion for life and her ability to keep going even when faced with multiple challenges is a true inspiration. She has such an incredible story to share about how she took her years of experience as a chef and adapted her skills in the kitchen to be successful with cooking with her changing vision.

Chef Regina lights up when she shares about conducting her own Zoom cooking classes where she is teaching others with vision loss what she learned in her own kitchen. She calls her Zoom classes “Descriptive Cooking.” Regina loves the opportunity to create an atmosphere where individuals with low vision can successfully take on the kitchen and learn new skills to empower them to enjoy cooking from scratch.

Join us on May 25th, 2021, when Regina and I will be broadcasting live from her kitchen and making Luscious Lemon Loaf with Zesty Lemon Drizzle. She will share the recipe for this amazing dessert, and most importantly she will also share her recipe for success in the kitchen by using large print and high contrast cooking and measuring utensils as well as adaptations for reading spices and other key ingredients.

Regina will show how easy it is to use the MagniLink Voice to take a picture and perform text-to-speech (TTS) on her document and then listen to her ingredients list and cooking instructions. If she prefers to look up a new recipe online or open her favorite family recipe file she has saved on her computer, then the MagniLink TAB is a great option. This all-in-one system also allows her to easily view printed recipes by changing the size and color which best suits her vision. Regina can also perform TTS and have the recipe read to her and choose the viewing option that best meets her needs.

Regina will share about her upcoming Descriptive Cooking Classes. Make sure join us for this exciting webinar so you can receive all the details for her upcoming classes for June and July.
